Vermillion Cliffs -I first ventured to the Vermillion Cliffs wilderness area in 1983, long before BLM implemented the permit system for Coyote Buttes.  There was no parking lot, no bathrooms, no campground, no trailhead, and  few people knew these magic lands existed.   There was no need to protect the area with limited daily permits because only those adventuresome spirits who made the extra effort to explore these wonderlands actually went there.  Only once in many visits over many years did I encounter  another party.  The visitors in those days were wilderness lovers, who respected the  land, enjoyed its beauty, and left it as they found it.  Today these individuals have been replaced with international tourists who obtain permits on line and wander through this countryside as if they were visiting Disneyland.  I have not been able to obtain a permit in over 5 years.  You will find difficulty doing so also, so please enjoy my photos because it may be a long time before you get to take your own.
